Create your own sound effects
Objective: Use Audacity to create some sound effects using a microphone
First, make sure that you have downloaded and installed Audacity and that you have a working microphone.
I am using a Razer Seiren mini USB microphone, they are cheap right now and it is a decent microphone. I also use it for streaming and recording.
I created my own sound effect for my 2D space shooter project, which you can play here. I tried to create my sound effects so that they sounded like the Halo multiplayer announcer from back in the day. I created three sound effects using Audacity and then edited them in the software and used them in my project.
All you have to do is make sure your microphone is selected in Audacity and hit record. Now create your sound effect or your dialogue and then click stop. To remove any part of the recording you do not want, you drag with your mouse and the left mouse button over the read you do not need and press delete. This will remove the part you do not want.
Once you’re happy with the recording you can then export the file as the extension you need.
That’s it, just drag your audio file into Unity or Unreal and off you go.
